It's official, the World's Fastest Victory!

MBW has made history, and you're looking at it right here...our Victory Vegas 8-Ball Land Speed Racer is the World's Fastest Victory! On October 26, 2008 we posted a standing mile top speed of 147.53343 MPH at the East Coast Timing Association's Maxton Mile. Drawing from our previous land speed racing experience in Maxton earlier this year, and last year at the Bub's event in Bonneville, we re-teamed up with Lloyd and Adam at Lloyd's Motorworkz and incorporated race quality suspension components from Scott at Conquest Customs.
You can't have the World's Fastest Victory without the World's Fastest Victory rider. Those duties were undertaken by David Torchio (Adam's brother) in his rookie Land Speed Racing effort. Our collective efforts at the race were (unofficially ;-) ) supervised by Adam and David's father, Cal, also known as "The Mayor".
What's next? Going faster of course, and we'll be hard at work this off-season getting ready for the next race at Maxton in April 2009.

MBW ROCKS Victory's 10th Anniversary at the American Victory Rally (AVR) in Spirit Lake, Iowa, August 2008
In one of the largest single gatherings of thousands of Victory motorcycle enthusiasts, MBW completely wowed the crowds with our new products and project bike. In addition, MBW made things interesting for attendees by giving everyone who stopped by their booth free raffle tickets for a chance at winning prizes totally almost four thousand dollars, including Bassani pipes, Cycle-To-Cycle thermodipsticks, Todd's Cycle grips and a whole bunch of Trik Wires and MBW apparel. We were honored to win the Victory Motorcycle Club's first prize for both our Kingpin and all-new, ground-up custom rigid bobber, that started life as an '04 Vegas. Much thanks to Larry Senior and Junior of Pure Victory Polishes for helping make our bikes stand out. We were also more than happy to let Victory CEO Mark Blackwell take a spin on our Project Kingpin; he definitely enjoyed it, particularly Lloydz motor work and our all new prototype rear suspension. Victory has absolutely raised the bar on the AVR and we can't wait until the 11th!

MBW ON THE SALT AT BONNEVILLE
MBW Motorcycle has made history as the first Victory to run the International Course at the Bub Motorcycle Speed Trial at the Bonneville Salt Flats Speedway. Our trip owes a tremendous amount of thanks to our sponsors, including Alloy Art, Performance Machine, Todd's Cycle and Bitchin Seat Company who helped make it happen. We're also very grateful to the folks at the Victory factory in Spirit Lake, Iowa for allowing our '06 8-Ball to "come home" and tour the factory and meet some of the people where she started (pictures and a feature on that to come later).
Our team had an incredible experience at the Salt which won't ever be forgotten. Our pilot, James, used his prolific racing skills to wrangle an impressive 117+ MPH run out of some of the most hostile track conditions in recent history.
Being the only Victory there made us an attention magnet. The factory tank, rear fender, side covers and swingarm left no doubt that our diligent detail to "keeping it Victory" played out well for us. They complimented our custom front end which used our own custom triple trees and clip-ons (with PM hand controls, of course), Kingpin fork tubes and 17-inch black anodized PM wheels. Todd's Cycle grips and foot-pegs (with some creative use of the factory stockers) and a custom dual steering dampener helped James focus on the task at hand while the 100 CI Freedom motor built by Lloyd'z Motorworkz cranking out an outstanding 140+ HP, (click here for dyno!) barked through a custom Bassani 2>1 exhaust, running on 110 octane racing fuel and powered the bike effortlessly, while barely nudging the half-throttle mark!
We also had the chance to test two of our own products under the most extreme and arduous environmental conditions. Both our oil cooler relocation kit and John @ Cycle-To-Cycle's thermo-dipstick performed flawlessly and are now the only Bonneville Tested/Proven products available on the Victory aftermarket. In addition, our chain drive conversion handily matched the motor's powerband to the extreme conditions and allows us some future flexibility for other speed events...
We also wanted to thank Brian and Laura Klock of Klock Werks/Kustom Baggers for letting us be part of their memorably wedding ceremony on the Salt and to Bennett's Performance, our pit-mates for their invaluable assistance. 'Nuff said! See you on the Salt next year!!! |
